Did a Nuclear Meltdown happen in Japan during the Tsunami and Earthquake of March 2011?

yes the biggest nuclear accident known to man and its leaking radiation but we don't hear about it on the news? why? because the truth would cause m panic? i don't think the government has the right to decide that for us
